Pat is a princess

Mark and Sandi hosted a tenure and promotion party honoring Pat on Sunday night. Pat so thoroughly enjoyed wearing a tiara that now she refers to herself as HRH.

Old chicken, new chickens

The bottom chicken is Lucy. She is a 5 1/2 year-old Red Sexlink. Unfortunately, her roommate, Eleone, passed on to the big chicken coup in the sky last week. Lucy looks so ragged because she immediately went into molting after Eleone bought the farm. Thinking Lucy seemed down and out, I got her a couple roomies. In the top picture is Maggie, aka Big Bird. She is a two year-old Rhode Island Red.  In the middle picture is Suki, formerly known as Eskimo. She is a two year-old Araucana. She lays blue-green eggs, unlike her primary caregiver. Our daughter, Claire, started this chicken ranching thing, but she grew up and left us for Belgium and all points adventurous. Such is the life of empty nesting.
