Our first day in Belgium was spent in Liege. Below, Claire gives Pat a guided tour of her bakery, where she makes tarts and other sweet artisan treats.
Claire introduced us to Liege waffles, which taste a lot like cake donuts and should not be confused with Brussels-style waffles, which are more pancakish. Liege-style waffles are commonly eaten for snacks between meals. Pat and I succumbed to cultural pressure.
Liege waffles are best fresh from a street vendor, and frequently topped with chocolate, Speculoos or jam.
Of course, Belgium is famous for chocolate, too. I ate a five kilogram chocolate bar for lunch. Yum!
Claire enjoyed a shopping trip at her favorite bakery supply store.
